You have probably already heard that multitasking affects your work performance. Now, it's a scientifically proven fact. But the problem is actually much deeper than just a poor productivity. In fact, multitasking can damage your brain.
Multitasking Makes Us Stupid
Research conducted at Stanford University showed that people who multitask have more difficulties to fully focus on one thing, recall information and switch from one task to another. It takes them longer to complete tasks, and they make "distraction" errors more often than people doing one thing at a time.
Even if there's no proof yet that multitasking is physically damaging the brain, it's clear that it can change its structure (the anterior cingulate corteх). What's more? As time passes by, multitasking can damage your EQ (emotional intellect) - social skills that are crucial to success at work.
So, the next time you try to type an e-mail while eating, remember that multitasking can hinder your career growth and physical health!
