Career Change

Even if you have made the right career choice once, it may not remain your best choice forever. Life is going forward and the job market is constantly evolving. If the job outlook in your field has worsened, then probably you may want to make a career change. But!

Changing careers is a risky and time consuming process. A new career could mean starting everything from scratch. Are you ready to invest your time and money in a new training? Is this the right moment to make a career change? Will it pay after? There are many questions to ask yourself before taking the decision to change careers.

Before making any big moves, you need to determine what part of your professional life needs a shift - the field you work in, your qualification or the area you live in. You should be 100% sure that you aren't just looking for new challenges or options in your field or profession, but you are willing to start over. Our advice: a step-by-step research and self-reflection are the best strategy to make the right choice.

In the meanwhile, you can consider the following options:

Change your current field.

If the job market has changed and is no longer seeking out your skills, then probably it's better to change your current field. If you think your job is outdated, then it's time to explore some other horizons. Can you think of any other field or niche field where you can make use of your skills? Learn as much as you can about job opportunities, salary estimates and required skills in these fields.

Learn some additional skills.

The more skills you have, the better your chances of finding the right job are. Start by doing a self-assessment of your skills, achievements and prospects. Find roles where your current skills can be of use and determine which new skills can open you better job perspectives. Sometimes, a short learning course can be enough to help you change the direction of your pervious career.

Expand your job search area.

If you were satisfied with your previous job and have some years of experience, there's no reason to think about changing careers. If you can't find job opportunities in your town, you should look for job opportunities in other towns, or even countries. Determine which geographical factors impact your industry and prepare yourself for moving elsewhere if needed.

There are plenty of good articles on the net with examples of questions you might ask yourself before changing careers. We recommend you to read the following ones:
