We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team for an exciting 8 week paid Summer Placement stating in July 2025. Opportunities will be based at construction sites and offices in South Staffordshire, Birmingham, Coventry, North and South Warwickshire. As a Summer placement working on HS2, this is a unique opportunity to support your current studies at University and give you invaluable experience working on a Major Project. What you'll be doing: As a Materials Testing summer placement you support the delivery of high-quality materials engineering solutions by assisting with technical support, materials testing, and value engineering. Ensure compliance with safety, sustainability, and quality standards while developing expertise in materials disciplines such as earthworks, stabilisation, concrete, asphalt, and tunnelling. Maintain effective communication, contribute to continuous improvement, and uphold Balfour Beatty VINCI values. Who we're looking for: Enthusiastic and motivated individuals currently studying in their 1st or 2nd Year of their degree programme and available for 8 weeks from 21 July 2025. Prioritisation will be given to candidates studying at a Midlands-based University or who are permanent residents within the area. Ensure all work is carried out safely Provide expert materials engineering support including value engineering solutions. Conduct laboratory and site testing of aggregates, concrete, and asphalt to required standards. Support sustainability initiatives and ensure compliance with quality management systems and project specifications. Assist in identifying, managing, and mitigating materials-related risks on contracts. Develop and maintain relationships with consultants, suppliers, and internal teams to support technical solutions. Contribute to best practices, innovation, and staying up to date with industry standards and new technologies. Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained to required standards. Assist and learn from senior staff while contributing to a high-performance team culture. Please note candidates will need to have a current valid right to work in the UK to be considered for this role. Requirements: Candidates must be studying a degree in Materials Science, Geology, or a related field. About Balfour Beatty VINCI Balfour Beatty VINCI is a long-established joint venture between two powerhouses for the delivery of critical infrastructure across rail, transport and other iconic projects in the UK and beyond. We started working together over 30 years ago to deliver the Channel Tunnel, as members of the TransManche Link consortium. In the Midlands, it is Balfour Beatty VINCI’s role to design and build the route, ready for tracks and signalling to be installed. Our work with HS2 Balfour Beatty VINCI have been awarded a 90km section of the HS2 project from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and then on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.
