Our success depends heavily on the commitment and skills of our people. We are now looking for a Head Chef to join the University on a full time basis (includes 5 over 7 days). THE ROLE The post holder will be primarily concerned with the day-to-day running of the department’s kitchens, leading, and developing the kitchen staff to achieve food excellence. The post holder will have responsibility for implementing procedures relating to food safety and allergen control across all University run catering outlets and will be responsible for maintaining and reviewing these procedures to deliver exemplary standards in conjunction with the Catering and Conference Manager and the wider catering team. ABOUT YOU To be considered for this role, you will need: Proficient level of general education including written and numbery skills. NVQ 1, 2 in catering or equivalent. Level 3 Award in Food Safety in Catering and willingness to work towards Level 4 in Managing food Safety in Catering Previous experience of overseeing a busy kitchen environment, managing all aspects of food safety, stock management, procurement systems and sustainability. Previous experience of creating and delivering menus for functions and events and day to day operation requirements. Ability to demonstrate excellent organisational skills with previous experience of staff planning to include rotas and HR related activities. Ability to communicate in a concise and effective manner, as well as excellent customer service skills. Previous experience of developing a proactive and engaging kitchen team, an effective self-motivator and ability to motivate others. Including team and personal development training. Ability to respond to business needs at short notice.
