Job Summary
The mortuary department forms part of pathology services at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. The mortuary is a busy and diverse service and works closely with other departments including histopathology, bereavement, and maternity, in addition to external organisations such as HM coroners' office, Essex County council and Essex police to provide optimal care for the deceased and families of the deceased.
Main duties of the job
The role of mortuary assistant is integral to mortuary operations including daily administration tasks and organisation of the work, including all aspects of body handling, receipt and release, and viewings. You will participate in the review and completion of audits, risk assessments and competencies. Particular attention must be paid to mortuary hygiene, and health and safety responsibilities. You will supervise porters and other non-mortuary staff entering the mortuary to ensure a safe and efficient working environment and will be expected to work across sites when capacity and demand requires.

* Giving and receiving patient centered information within GDPR and Information Governance guidelines
* Collating figures for the Mortuary manager.
* To generate and send mortuary capacity reports when requested
* Excel, Word and computer skills required.
* To book deceased into Mortuary on EDEN system.
* Assisting the APTs prior to postmortem, with documenting scars, logging, and safe custody of property. Recording clothing retained and/or disposed. Preparing postmortem examination blank templates on EDEN.
* Arrange and assist with formal identification on unidentified bodies, in conjunction with Essex Police.
* Assist the Mortuary Manager in the monitoring of risk assessments, reviewing, and updating where necessary.
* To participate in audits as required by the Human Tissue Authority
* Assist in ensuring and maintaining HTA standards in the Mortuary.
