The role: We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our growing team of technical experts. The ideal candidate is an experienced scalable data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys developing and optimising data systems from the ground up. Joining one of our market-facing teams, t he Data Engineer will support our Legal Engineers, Data Scientists and LLM/GenAI experts on various data-led solutions and will ensure optimal data architecture and processing is consistently applied. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products, including stakeholders and clients. What will you do: Working as part of an agile multi-functional team to execute projects that address challenges faced by our clients. Helping to develop technology that automates tasks within legal work that are traditionally done manually. Working closely with Data Scientists, Legal Engineers, Lawyers to design, build and test data solutions, creating repeatable productised services. Undertaking data profiling and source system analysis, presenting clear insights to colleagues to support the end use of the data. Executing test scripts under supervision with a good understanding of the role of testing and how it operates. Actively participate in our knowledge sharing initiatives to share skills and expertise to contribute to the professional development of the wider team. What we are looking for: 4 years’ experience in a Data Engineer/ML Engineer/Data Scientist role, and with a Graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field. Advanced working knowledge of and experience with relational (SQL) databases, as well as previous experience with data warehousing technologies, such as Databricks (which we use), Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, Apache NiFi, Apache Beam, TimeXtender, MS Fabric, etc. Implementing code that runs at a scale. Experience using Python and at least two libraries from the list: PySpark; Pandas/Dask; Numpy; Scikit-learn; Torch/Tensorflow/equivalent); Huggingface; Langchain Experience owning, building and optimising data pipelines, CI/CD, and ETL processes. Strong analytic skills and successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from various (including but not limited to unstructured) datasets. Familiarity with data and web scraping technologies, such as HTTPs, Selenium or Playwright. Knowledge of Natural Language Processing methodologies, such as regular expressions, vector embeddings, unsupervised and supervised machine learning including shallow models. Familiarity with trending LLM technologies. Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment. Confidence at navigating competing priorities, resolving ambiguity and managing demanding expectations under pressure. An independent, pro-active and confident approach to managing project-based work. Excellent stakeholder management skills who can communicate advanced concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience with Microsoft Azure, however, other cloud platforms are also a plus such as Amazon Web Services, or Google Cloud Platform. A working knowledge of Git and basic version control principles. An ability to be creative and bold when it comes to presenting and visualising data and insights experience of working with legal or other business professionals. Some experience regarding data governance, e.g., practical experience in applying governance to promote and maintain good data quality, for example, completeness, accuracy, consistency, integrity and timeliness of data.
