Location – The Farmers Arms, Ulverston
As Sous Chef, you’ll be second in command in the kitchen, working alongside our Head Chef to ensure the smooth running of daily operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and driven chef who thrives in a fast-paced, high-quality environment. You’ll play a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of food preparation and service, as well as mentoring junior chefs and taking charge when the Head Chef is unavailable.
Position: Sous Chef
Hours: Full-Time (35-45 hours per week)
Pay: £32,760 – £37,440 per year
Key Responsibilities:
* Assisting the Head Chef in managing all aspects of the kitchen, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation
* Leading the kitchen team in the absence of the Head Chef
* Ensuring that all dishes meet the high standards of quality and presentation expected by Chattaway Inns
* Managing kitchen operations, including stock control, ordering, and minimising food waste
* Training and developing junior kitchen staff
* Contributing to the creation of new dishes and seasonal menu development
* Adhering to all relevant laws, legislation, and internal policies and procedures, ensuring both legal and company standards are met
Qualifications/Experience:
* Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a professional kitchen, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role
* Operations: Proven expertise in food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations
* Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a team effectively
* Knowledge: Excellent knowledge of food safety regulations and practices
* High-Paced Experience: Culinary experience in a high-paced restaurant setting, with the ability to deliver quality under pressure
* Personality: A passion for great food and the ability to inspire and mentor a team
* Menu Development: Previous experience working with locally-sourced ingredients and menu development is a plus
