As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining end-to-end data pipelines that extract, load, and transform data into useful information, which in turn is accessible for reporting and analysis. You will work closely with department teams across the business (e-commerce, marketing, product, merchandising, finance, operations) to ensure our data warehouse efficiently and securely delivers high-quality insights that inform our business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain data pipelines to extract, transform, and load (ETL/ELT) data from multiple sources, including ecommerce data, marketing analytics platforms, operational and finance data.
* Use Python (or programming language of choice) and SQL to automate data extraction, load, and transformation workflows to deliver clean and structured data marts and reporting tables.
* Work with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services including BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Airflow, Scheduled Queries, GCP Workflows, Dataform and IAM.
* Use Looker Studio to build dashboards and reports.
* Ensure data integrity, quality, and security by implementing best practices in data governance, monitoring, and validation.
* Collaborate with department teams to understand and document data needs and deliver high-performance, reliable solutions.
* Manage and own data projects from initial briefing to sign-off of implemented solutions.
* Optimize and troubleshoot data pipelines to enhance performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
* Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in data engineering and cloud computing.
Required Skills & Experience
* Extensive experience in Python (or similar language) and cloud computing tools for the automation of data pipelines.
* Strong proficiency in SQL for efficient complex transformations.
* Significant experience with an enterprise data warehouse stack, ideally GCP, although experience with other enterprise data platforms will be positively considered.
* Proven experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing data pipelines for large-scale data processing.
* Extensive hands-on experience with APIs to extract and ingest data from various sources, including ecommerce platforms, marketing analytics tools, and other third-party systems.
* Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, schema design, and ETL/ELT best practices.
* Experience with dashboarding and report building tools e.g. Tableau, Power BI.
* Experience with data security and access control policies in a cloud environment.
* Ability and confidence to lead and manage multiple projects/tasks efficiently.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex data issues.
* Ability to explain complex data concepts and solutions in layman’s terms.
Nice-to-Have Experience
* Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly BigQuery.
* Familiarity with DTC ecommerce platforms, business models, and metrics.
* Experience working with Shopify’s APIs and extracting data from Shopify.
* Understanding of digital marketing and analytics tools such as Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Ads, Meta, TikTok, Snapchat, Bing Ads, and others.
* Working with Looker Studio.
* Knowledge of marketing attribution models.
* Experience with real-time data processing and streaming technologies.
