About the Role/ Department
The Scenario Analysis and Stress Testing Specialist will support the Risk Measurement Director in the development, maintenance and implementation of the Scenario Analysis policy, including the oversight and coordination of the various stress testing programs across the Bank. The successful candidate will ensure that stress testing activities are well governed and guided by clear and well-detailed processes and procedures.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated industry experience in scenario analysis and stress testing, including risk management, with proven stakeholder management skills, as there will be a need to coordinate across multiple stakeholders in the 1st and 2nd LoD. Also, experience working at a large-scale financial services organization, and a demonstrated ability to oversee such functions and effectively collaborate with senior stakeholders.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
* Maintain the policy on scenario analysis and stress testing, and respond to inquiries from examiners and auditors on practices in this area.
* Support stress testing program managers in the development of scenarios and stress testing programs.
* Analyze and interpret the banks’ stress testing program results to determine if stress tests require additional escalation to the relevant Chief Risk Officer and risk committees.
* Develop and maintain an inventory of stress testing programs as well as an enterprise scenario library, including regulatory guidance applicable for each stress test, current pipeline of activities, and stress test analysis summaries/results.
* Facilitate the connection of the various stress testing program managers to achieve synergies, harmonize processes and enhance efficiency across various stress testing programs.
* Prepare periodic activity reporting for senior management, including a summary of enterprise stress testing activities.
* Facilitate discussions across Northern Trust stakeholders to establish linkage of the stress testing results with other risk management processes, such as risk appetite and risk identification.
* Execute on strategic direction of business function activities, able to carry out the most complex initiatives involving multiple disciplines and/or ambiguous issues.
* Able to display a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the rest of the business to improve efficiency, effectiveness and productivity.
* Highly flexible and adaptable to change. Able to work across junior and senior staff members globally and across different time zones.
Key Skills/ Experience
* Knowledge of risk management and strategic goals for the bank's business. In-depth knowledge of regulations, federal, state, and local laws and regulations acquired through formal education and work experience is required.
* Seasoned multi-disciplinary expert with extensive technical, digital and/or business knowledge and functional expertise in risk avoidance and compliance.
* Demonstrated industry experience in risk management and specifically scenario analysis and stress testing coordination and oversight roles.
* Experience in relevant regulatory guidance, including the Reg YY, SR12-7.
* Works effectively as a team member but also independently.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
* Strong communication skills both written and verbal, proven experience in interfacing comfortably across multiple stakeholders.
* Reporting skills with an ability to analyze and summarize information.
* Knowledge of risk appetite (limits setting) and regulatory capital requirements is a plus.
* Communication and analytical skills are necessary to consult with partners/clients, and analyze information and apply regulations.
