At BBC Studios, the Technology Systems & Delivery team plays a crucial role in supporting and transforming the company’s operations. This position, within the Data Platform team, will be pivotal in shaping how we handle and analyze data, allowing us to better serve our audience and clients. THE ROLE
BBC Studios is seeking a Data Engineer to join our data platform initiative within the Technology Systems & Delivery team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge data systems, providing personalized experiences to millions of BBC customers. The Data Engineer will work within a multi-disciplinary team to design and maintain high-quality, scalable data pipelines, ensuring a secure, efficient, and high-performance platform.
Main Responsibilities
* Develop, maintain, and optimize data pipelines to ingest, process, and summarize data.
* Automate processes to streamline data workflows and ensure scalable, high-performance data systems.
* Collaborate with the team to design data platform architecture, evaluate tools, and drive best practices.
* Prioritize data security, ensuring compliance with governance policies and leveraging techniques such as anonymization, masking, and obfuscation.
* Stay up-to-date with new database technologies, DevOps best practices, and data science tools.
* Foster a culture of innovation, collaborating to improve processes and enhance system capabilities.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE?
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Solid experience in data engineering, with an understanding of data pipelines and processing technologies.
* Familiarity with database design, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
* Knowledge of SQL, DBT, and experience with data warehousing technologies (preferably Snowflake).
* Experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
* Strong knowledge of infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
* Experience in programming languages like Python.
* Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions).
* Enthusiasm for building scalable, high-impact data products.
* Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
