Are you a practical HR leader, passionate about building strong foundations and shaping the future of people services in Swindon? If so, we want to hear from you.
Swindon Borough Council is forging a future where connectivity powers progress. We're seeking six visionary, creative and passionate directors to join our leadership team, turn the dial on performance and drive our improvement plans forward.
We’re integrating services, connecting our workforce with a sense of mission, fostering improved partnerships and harnessing AI and data to inform our preventative approach.
We're seeking an exceptional HR and OD Director to drive this change. This is a unique opportunity to reshape local government HR practices and lead innovative people strategies that will define Swindon's future.
About the Role
As our new HR Leader, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping Swindon's future. This is a unique chance to lead comprehensive HR transformation, drive organisational culture change, and develop strategic people initiatives. You'll partner closely with senior leadership to achieve Swindon's mission of creating a fairer city for all.
Your primary focus will be on restoring and enhancing our core HR functions, including recruitment, payroll, and employee relations. We need a leader who can get the basics right, establishing a solid foundation upon which we can build more sophisticated HR practices. You'll be responsible for developing and implementing a robust HR improvement plan that addresses our current challenges while setting the stage for future growth.
You'll lead organisational design and workforce planning initiatives, drive our inclusion agenda, enhance our HR data analytics and measures of success, and partner with directors and service areas to align HR strategy with business needs. Your insights will shape our strategy. Your leadership will drive our success and you will be the catalyst that propels Swindon into a dynamic future.
This is your canvas to paint a brighter future. Your ideas will shape our culture, your strategies will drive our success, and your leadership will inspire a workforce that propels Swindon into a dynamic future.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for a HR Professional who sees possibilities where others see obstacles. You’ll need to be a dynamic leader who can balance strategic insight with pragmatic execution, bringing extensive experience in senior HR roles and a proven track record of successful organisational transformation. You will need to have experience in navigating complex stakeholder landscapes and be able to build strong long-lasting relationships with key stakeholders, including elected members, unions and the leadership team.
We need a strategic thinker with sharp operational skills, who excels in addressing immediate HR challenges while crafting long-term workforce plans. We need someone who can listen attentively to our customers' needs and translate those insights into effective HR strategies.
We need someone who brings boundless energy, creativity, and a passion for nurturing high-performing teams. You'll be the standard-bearer for our values: doing what really matters, doing things right, and making it happen together. Your leadership will be the catalyst that ignites our workforce's potential, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
If you're ready to connect our workforce with a sense of mission, revolutionise our services, and deliver outcomes that genuinely improve lives, we want to hear from you. This is your chance to shape a fairer, better, and greener Swindon. Are you up for the challenge of turning HR obstacles into triumphs and leaving a lasting legacy in local government?
