Sous Chef (No late nights or split shifts)

Salary: £14.65 per hour with £1,000 welcome bonus
Contract Type: Permanent, Full time, 40 hours a week across 5 days, including alternative weekends - no late nights, offering an excellent work-life balance.

Role Overview: Our Sous Chef plays a crucial role in our restaurant’s kitchen operations, maintaining kitchen efficiency, ensuring food quality, and supporting the Head Chef’s vision. This role is also a stepping stone for aspiring chefs aiming to become Head Chefs.
Responsibilities:
1. Catering to residents across the Village, including the care home, serviced suites, restaurant meals, and specific events.
2. Maintaining a balanced diet within the menu and updating menus on a minimum 5-weekly cycle.
3. Managing kitchen-related duties such as budgeting, ordering, stock control, checking, storage, preparation, and disposal of waste food.
4. Collaborating with the hospitality team to ensure smooth delivery of service and advising on food handling practices.
5. Developing and maintaining systems for the kitchen, ensuring equipment is maintained and defects reported to the Head Chef.
6. Training kitchen staff, delegating duties, and supporting recruitment for the catering department as needed.
7. Preparing rotas and ensuring all shifts are covered.
Key Skills / Qualifications:
If you're passionate about food and have a minimum of two years' experience in a professional kitchen, preferably serving customers with special dietary needs, you may be the perfect fit. A solid understanding of health and safety protocols is essential, along with an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Catering and a CIEH Level 2 Food Safety Award, or an equivalent qualification. Experience in a deputy role to a Head Chef and supervising a team will be beneficial. You should be open to innovation, with a creative approach to cooking and the skill to craft nutritious, balanced, and appealing menus. A collaborative spirit is key, as you'll be part of a team dedicated to providing an outstanding dining experience.
