To support our progress, we are currently recruiting for a Data Engineer (Databricks & BI) to come and join our team at Ibstock Head Office, LE67 6HS. Job Purpose: The Data Engineer / BI Developer will play a critical role in developing and refining our modern data lakehouse platform, with a primary focus on Databricks for data engineering, transformation, and analytics. The role will involve designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data solutions to support business intelligence and reporting needs. This platform integrates Databricks, Power BI, and on-premises JDE systems to provide near real-time insights for decision-making. Key Accountabilities: Ensure the existing design, development, and expansion of a near real-time data platform integrating AWS, Databricks and on-prem JDE systems. Develop ETL processes to integrate and transform data from multiple sources into a centralised data platform. Develop and optimise complex queries and data pipelines. Optimise and manage the data platform to ensure high availability, performance, and scalability. Implement and maintain data security best practices to protect sensitive information. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and understand data requirements. Design and build interactive and insightful dashboards and reports for internal and external stakeholders. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for data models, ETL processes, and BI solutions. Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across the data platform. Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Essentia l Strong expertise in Databricks and Apache Spark for data engineering and analytics. Proficient in SQL and Python/PySpark for data transformation and analysis. Experience in data lakehouse development and Delta Lake optimisation. Experience with ETL/ELT processes for integrating diverse data sources. Experience in gathering, documenting, and refining requirements from key business stakeholders to align BI solutions with business needs. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Experience with on-premises ERP/Enterprise system integrations (e.g., JDE). 5 years of experience in data engineering, BI development, or a similar role. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams. Desirable Experience in Power BI dashboard development, including DAX and data modelling. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for data deployment. Experience with streaming technologies for near real-time data processing. Knowledge of data governance, compliance, and security best practices. Prior experience with cloud-based lakehouse implementation. Experience with machine learning (ML) and AI frameworks, particularly within Databricks (e.g., MLflow, AutoML, or PyTorch/TensorFlow).
