Our Sous Chef plays a crucial role in our restaurant’s kitchen operations for maintaining kitchen efficiency, ensuring food quality, and supporting the Head Chef’s vision. This role also serves as a stepping stone for aspiring chefs aiming to become Head Chefs.
You’ll help us make health happen by:
* Catering to residents across the Village which comprises of the care home, catering for serviced suites, villagers who have booked a meal in the restaurant or requested meals to be taken across to their apartments or for other specific events.
* Maintaining a balanced diet within the menu and updating menus on a minimum 5 weekly cycle.
* Managing all kitchen-related duties such as budgeting, ordering, stock control, checking, storage, preparation, and disposal of waste food.
* Working with other members of the hospitality team to ensure smooth delivery of service and advising the team on aspects of food handling related to their work.
* Developing and maintaining appropriate systems for the kitchen ensuring all equipment is maintained and any defects are reported to the Head Chef.
* Ensuring all kitchen staff are trained, that kitchen duties are delegated accordingly and supporting with the recruitment of staff for the catering department as required.
* Preparing rotas, ensuring all shifts are covered.
Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:
If you're passionate about food and have a minimum of two years' experience in a professional kitchen, preferably serving customers with special dietary needs, you may be the perfect fit. A solid understanding of health and safety protocols is essential, along with an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Catering and a CIEH Level 2 Food Safety Award, or an equivalent qualification. Experience in a deputy role to a Head Chef, supervising a team, and any additional catering credentials will be beneficial. You should be open to innovation, with a creative approach to cooking and the skill to craft nutritious, balanced, and appealing menus with new food products. A collaborative spirit is key, as you'll be part of a team dedicated to providing an outstanding dining experience at every meal.
