About us:
The Carpenters Arms is a charming countryside pub set in the picturesque farmland surrounding Tonbridge, Kent.
With nine cozy hotel rooms, we offer a warm and welcoming escape for both locals and visitors. We’re on the lookout for a creative and passionate Head Chef to lead our kitchen and drive our food offering forward.
Our philosophy is simple: create delicious, high-quality dishes without unnecessary complexity. Using the best seasonal ingredients, we take pride in serving classic pub favourites, standout specials, and a cracking Sunday roast with all the trimmings.
As Head Chef, you’ll have full autonomy over the menu, including daily specials and seasonal changes. We encourage creativity, from innovative dishes to themed food events.
This is a live-in position, with a beautiful flat included. We believe in rewarding hard work—overtime is paid on top of contracted hours, and our service charge and tips typically add an extra £4 per hour to your wage. Teamwork is at the heart of everything we do, ensuring we deliver an experience we’re all proud of.

What we look for in a Head Chef:
This role requires someone that can inspire a team, bring out the potential, and lead by example while being able to develop, cost, and produce fresh seasonal menus for the variety of revenue streams within the business.
* Experience championing excellent service through quality food either as a Head Chef or in the position of Sous Chef
* Demonstrated passion for leading and developing a team
* Active hands-on team player with excellent communication skills
* Responsible and able to manage the kitchen staff rota, training, and all health and safety effectively at all times
* Ability to demonstrate creativity and design and deliver new dishes for our menus and daily specials
* Great planning and organisational skills necessary to maintain effective controls with regard to both GP and labour
* Pro-active approach to driving sales and delivering growth through engagement with both kitchen and front of house teams
