Lonza is looking for an experienced Azure Data Engineer to lead the team in Manchester. This is a hands-on engineering position with the main focus on business and digital transformation. The Senior Data Engineer will have the opportunity to work with multiple stakeholders across the Lonza network providing solution architecture and engineering for data ingestion and modelling challenges and delivering operational support and troubleshooting to the business.
The role will be responsible for maintaining the unified data platform and managing the solutions delivered on the platform at Lonza with operational support and troubleshooting, as well as coordinating data engineers across several parallel projects.
What you’ll do:
1. Support Data Strategy and Architecture: Enable and execute the organization’s Data Strategy, focusing on the development and implementation of robust Data Architecture solutions.
2. Drive Data Platform Solutions: Design and support data platform architecture; evaluate, assess, and estimate new projects and requests.
3. Coordinate Data Engineering Efforts: Lead and support data engineers in addressing challenges related to data ingestion, transformation, and modeling.
4. Streamline Enterprise Data Tools: Collaborate with the Data Governance Board, Digital Council, and IT teams to consolidate enterprise data tools, aligning them to a unified Data Architecture.
5. Collaborate with BI and Data Science Teams: Work closely with business intelligence analysts and data scientists to build and deliver innovative insights and analytics solutions.
6. Enhance Data Literacy: Partner with internal stakeholders and data experts to share best practices and analytics expertise, fostering improved data literacy across the organization.
7. Develop Robust Data Pipelines: Build and maintain pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and integration from diverse sources, forming a strong foundation for analytics.
8. Maintain the Unified Data Platform: Oversee and enhance the unified data platform and associated solutions, ensuring seamless analytics delivery and operational support.
9. Optimize CI/CD Pipelines: Maintain and improve Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) pipelines to enable agile, collaborative development processes.
What we’re looking for:
1. Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a data engineer or a related role.
3. At least 5 years’ experience across key areas such as:
1. ETL processes
2. Data warehousing, Data Fabric, and Data Virtualization
3. Business intelligence and advanced analytics
4. Big data and machine learning
4. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in managing or leading teams.
Technical Skills and Expertise:
1. Solid expertise in solution architecture and data modeling.
2. Proficiency in programming languages like PySpark or Python.
3. Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
4. Advanced knowledge of Cloud Services (preferably Azure) for data engineering, storage, and analytics.
5. Deep understanding of data warehousing, virtualization, and analytics concepts.
Additional Skills:
1. Strong numerical and analytical aptitude.
2. Effective communication and collaboration skills to engage with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
