Senior Sous Chef
Rate of Pay: £35000 - £37000 per annum
Working Hours: 40 hours per week
Shift Pattern: 5 days out of 7
Location: Shrewsbury School, Kingsland House, The Schools, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY3 7AA

The Role:
As a Senior Sous Chef, you will Lead kitchen operations, deputising for the Executive Chef & Head Chef when needed while Inspiring and mentoring the kitchen brigade, ensuring excellence in food preparation and service. You will engage with students, parents, and staff to create an outstanding dining experience
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee food production during and after service, ensuring all dishes meet company standards.
* Manage kitchen operations, maintaining quality, financial targets, and service excellence.
* Handle supply chain management, including efficient food ordering with the store’s supervisor.
* Support menu development, working with the Executive Chef and Head Chef.
* Monitor and reduce food waste, ensuring accurate daily data recording.
* Recruit, induct, and develop talented kitchen staff to maintain a strong and motivated team.
* Ensure compliance with food hygiene, health & safety, and environmental legislation.
* Build strong relationships with school staff, students, parents, and Sodexo colleagues.
* Lead team briefings and huddles to ensure communication and staff engagement.
* Engage with clients and visitors, "walking the floor" during service times.
* Contribute to the Chef Development Team, assisting with projects, recipes, and training.
* Undertake any reasonable request from management to support the smooth running of the kitchen.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential:
* NVQ Level 2 Food Production certificate or equivalent.
* Food Safety Level 2 certification or equivalent.
* Proven Experienced Chef in a busy kitchen with strong knowledge of cooking processes, food prep, and finished dishes.
* Strong leadership & team motivation skills.
* Some knowledge of numeracy to support with recipe building
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work under pressure, across various shifts and service times.
* Effective time management and organisational skills.
Desirable:
* Advanced Food Safety or Health & Safety qualification.
* Analytical problem-solving skills to improve efficiency and innovation.
* Proficiency in PC software for menu planning and reporting.
* Ability to implement change and continuously improve kitchen operations.
* A passion for continuous learning and development.
