Do you like working with the latest technology and are interested in enhancing your tech abilities? We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Data Engineer with significant experience of managing data pipelines.
As well as being an expert in cloud platform, you’ll have a strong background in Data Ingestion and Integration, designing and implementing ETL pipelines on various technologies, Data Quality monitoring and a rounded understanding of data operations.

As a Principal Data Engineer within our esteemed Data Engineering team, you will be an indispensable force, seamlessly integrating into Aviva Quantum, our global hub for Data Science Excellence. Here, our focus spans across a spectrum of disciplines, encompassing Machine Learning, Analytics, Data Engineering, AI, and more.
Furthermore, your role extends beyond the technical realm. You'll serve as a beacon of innovation, guiding the evolution of your teams with an eye towards industry-leading approaches. Your collaborative spirit will be a driving force as your teams engage with other areas of Aviva, ensuring that the culmination of our efforts yields nothing less than the finest customer experience.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
* Advanced Data Engineering: Proven expertise in building, operationalising, and managing end-to-end data engineering pipelines. Develop and rollout best practices and documentation standards across teams to optimize data flow. Experience of concurrently managing multiple data engineering teams across multiple areas.
* Coding Mastery: Proficient in writing clean, robust code in SQL and Python, with a strong foundation in data pipeline software engineering, testing, version control, and debugging. Experience of mentoring and supporting development of junior engineers.
* Data Analysis and Processing: Skilled in analytics, data manipulation with frameworks like Pandas and PySpark.
* Architectural Proficiency: Deep understanding of data architecture, modelling, and warehousing concepts, coupled with experience in big data technologies and distributed computing.
* Cloud and Tools Aptitude: Familiarity with cloud platforms including Snowflake, Airflow and Dbt and continuous integration tooling, enhancing your ability to deliver cutting-edge data solutions.
What you’ll get for this role:
* Salary: Circa £80,000 National / Circa £100,000 London (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications).
* Bonus opportunity – 12% of annual salary. Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s.
