Data Engineer - Performance Insights
Who we are: Everton Football Club is one of world sport's most respected and revered names - a by-word for innovation and professionalism during the course of a glittering history that spans three centuries.
One of the 12 founder members of the Football League, Everton has played more games in English football's top flight than any other club.
While rightly proud of our rich past, and Goodison Park, our home of more than 130 years, we are now setting our sights on an exciting future at a state-of-the-art new stadium currently being constructed on the banks of the iconic River Mersey.
In doing so, we remain committed to developing and supporting teams across our men’s, women’s and Academy set-ups that inspire and compete at the highest level of the game.
About the opportunity: Data analytics has come to play an important role in football, and because of this we are continuing to look at how we gain a competitive edge on and off the pitch. We feel that by using data to extract insights, we can have a significant impact on all aspects of performance. As a result, we now have an opportunity for a driven individual to come and join our Performance Insights team at Finch Farm as a Data Engineer.
Working closely with our Head of Performance Insights and the rest of the Performance Insights department, you will be taking the lead on the management and development of our data architecture. You will ensure all forms of structured and unstructured data sources are made clean and available to key stakeholders at all times.
You will be the lead for all matters concerning the sourcing, transforming and manipulating of data, and will also be leading in the development of good practices around the use of data across both the Men’s and Women’s teams, at 1st team and Academy level.
Key Responsibilities of the role:
1. Lead on the entire football data pipeline – building from source to ‘gold’ standard ready-to-use datasets.
2. Ensure key datasets are available at all times for analysis by stakeholders across the Club.
3. Lead on football data architecture strategy, designing and implementing a data environment that allows the Club to build on its culture of data-driven insights.
4. Develop and maintain robust, comprehensive documentation, ensuring that high standards of data governance and quality are prioritised across all processes.
5. Assess existing processes, eliminating points of failure and establishing new processes where required.
Who we are looking for: We are looking for someone to lead on our entire football data pipeline, from source to ‘gold’ standard ready-to-use datasets. You will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing a cloud-based data ecosystem that allows us to build on our culture of data-driven insights, and ultimately achieve our football data strategy.
You will be confident in communicating with all stakeholders, articulating your experience working with large datasets, databases and ETL systems.
If you feel that you are well suited to the role, then we encourage you to apply today.
The role is permanent and will be based at Finch Farm training ground in Liverpool (Halewood); working 40 hours per week, the closing date of this advert is Wednesday 18th December 2024.
We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive a substantial amount of applications.
