Fantastic opportunity to join us and support our company wide data initiative as a Data Engineer. You will develop, construct, test and implement data structures – such as data warehouses. The data is intended for data initiatives, including decision led analytics and operational use.
Responsibilities:
* Deliver against the company-wide data strategy, using iterative solutions to demonstrate future capabilities of data engineering.
* Optimise and prepare current data structures to satisfy business outcomes.
* Work closely with the data working group to architect VWFS’ future data target state.
* Lead on data initiatives and ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects.
* Build and manage data pipelines that enable efficient and reliable data integration, transformation, and delivery for all data users across the enterprise.
Knowledge and experience you have that enables you to add value:
* Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience with relational databases.
* Modelling, building and optimising ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
* Stakeholder management and strong communication skills.
* Performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes.
* Proven experience in Data Engineering and BI development.
* Experience manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
* Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores.
* Strong Enterprise Data Management skills.
* Excellent project management and organisational skills.
* Tenacious approach to problem-solving.
* Previous experience in Financial Services, Automotive Finance or retail consumer finance (B2C) and Agile certification is an advantage.
Tech Skillset essentials you must have:
* Expertise in ETL/ELT with industry standard tools: Informatica IPS/Cloud and SAP Data Services.
* High-level skill in data reporting: SAP Business Objects.
* High level of knowledge and experience in SQL - preferably PL/SQL.
* Experience in Tableau and familiarity with Power BI and Qliksense.
* Proven experience of building data models and end-to-end Data Engineering.
* Knowledge and experience of Python.
* Training or Certification in any of the above Tech Stack or in Enterprise Data Management would be seen as a plus.
It would be great if you had these too but not essential:
* Other data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka.
* Relational NoSQL databases, including Postgres and Cassandra.
* Knowledge and experience of data pipeline and workflow management tools.
* AWS cloud services: EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift.
* Stream-processing systems: Storm, Spark-Streaming.
* Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages.
* Strong Machine Learning, AI and Data Mining skills.
This is what you will be doing:
* Coach and upskill the Business Information (BI) Development team.
* Design and develop data pipelines that extract, transform, and load data.
* Demonstrate data preparation methods enterprise-wide.
* Mentor junior members of the BI Development team.
* Define and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
* Assemble large, complex data sets that meet business requirements.
* Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements.
* Act as technical lead in automating manual processes.
* Develop infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data.
* Build analytics tools that provide actionable insights.
* Work with stakeholders to assist with data-related technical issues.
* Ensure VWFS UK data is kept separated and secure.
* Create data tools for Data Analysts and Data Scientists.
* Collaborate with the IT Architecture team.
* Assist the BI Manager and Data & AI Technical Product Owner.
* Ensure knowledge transfer relating to new pipeline architecture.
