UAV & Drone Training Manager
We are recruiting for a Head of Training (UAV / Drone Training) to head up the training department of a successful and established commercial UAV company. The role will provide drone operation and pilot training to multiple clients on various UAV products, plus oversight and management of legal and compliance processes within the training schedule. The role is field-based with occasional travel to the Head Office. The position is a permanent role, Monday to Friday, circa 40 hours per week. Salary is £60-70k, with 26 days holiday plus statutory holidays. A healthcare and sick pay package is available after probation.
Drone Training Manager Description:
1. Develop and maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date training curriculum, enforcing strict compliance with regulatory standards.
2. Lead the training team to ensure they achieve their SLA training objectives.
3. Develop, update, and maintain all training materials and curricula for drone operations, ensuring content and delivery is within CAA requirements and legislation.
4. Conduct regular assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs.
5. Ensure zero non-conformities in internal audits.
6. Maintain up-to-date operational authorisations, renewing them annually, and ensure all internal pilots are completing refresher training and maintaining flight hours.
7. Ensure all demo drones are maintained.
8. Develop and maintain training literature and digital guides on the correct use of specialist equipment and/or demonstrate good skill techniques for all core products with certified exams.
9. Investigate any safety-related incidents that occur during a course or practical flight assessment.
10. Provide a structured management approach to control safety risks in operations with all paperwork up to date and risks managed and reported.
11. Review all Course Instructors and Flight Examiners in the performance of their training and assessment activities.
12. Ensure a high standard of training is provided across the customer base, reviewing training policy and processes to ensure all training operations comply with CAA and other legal requirements.
13. Advise and train on BVLOS packages both internally and externally to the respective client base.
14. Liaise with client representatives to schedule and plan training arrangements and follow up briefings.
Requirements:
1. Minimum 5 years in a customer-facing management role in the drone industry.
2. GVC holder.
3. Full driving license.
4. Experience of Safety Management Systems (SMS).
5. Experience in leadership and training management roles.
6. Experienced on BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight), flight hours, and regulatory compliance.
7. Ideally experienced in RAE or complex training environments (Military or Emergency Services).
8. Customer-focused and client-facing.
9. Excellent communication skills in respect of the trainers & examiners within the company and client-side instruction.
10. Willing to develop and grow within the position as the team expands.
11. Fully conversant with current and potential future CAA regulations.
12. Hold a genuine interest in UAV/Drone technology with a view to share working knowledge in the field to ensure correct operation of the equipment.
13. Willing and able to travel across the UK and attend client locations.
