Junior Sous Chef
Join our busy, friendly Catering team in the heart of Cambridge, providing a first class service for our college community. This role assists in the development and delivery of all meals in the College, sourcing locally produced products and serving high quality meals to students, staff, Fellows and guests.
This varied role offers a broad range of cooking opportunities from every day College meals to fine dining for more formal events. Full training is available to support your professional development.
The ideal candidate will have a good breadth of experience, skills and achievements gained from working within a catering environment. Key responsibilities include:
* Ensuring accurate records are kept at all times relating to food production and wastage.
* Ensuring all hygiene, health and safety standards are adhered to.
* Leading by example and being a valued team member, creating and maintaining a good team spirit.
* Supervising duties and giving technical advice and guidance when necessary.
Main Responsibilities
Co-ordination of service and food served
Liaising with the kitchen manager to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen.
Ensuring all food production is carried out to College standards and complete customer satisfaction.
Organising the food service area to ensure correct portions are served at all times.
Minimising wastage and following menus to achieve financial targets.
Management
Leading by example and being a valued team member, creating and maintaining a good team spirit.
Supervising duties and giving technical advice and guidance when necessary.
Instructing craft apprentices and other trainees in food preparation and kitchen management.
Assisting in staff training, administration duties and costings.
Client Relations
Being visible particularly at service times.
Presenting a positive and professional attitude at all times.
Dealing with queries or client comments promptly and efficiently.
Hygiene, Health and Safety
Ensuring all hygiene, health and safety standards are adhered to and the Colleges Health and Safety policy are complied with.
Implementing cleaning rotas and schedules and completing spot checks.
Demonstrating a consistently high standard of personal cleanliness and appearance.
Security
Maintaining all aspects of on site security and following relevant instructions.
Other responsibilities include behaving in a professional and polite manner, displaying a problem solving and positive attitude, and attending College training and staff meetings as requested.
