Salary: £38,900 – £50,600

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge. Our Applied AI team is looking for a talented Data Engineer to help develop the data infrastructure that powers cutting-edge educational solutions.
In this role, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining the data infrastructure that supports machine learning models and analytics. Your expertise will help drive efficiency, scalability, and innovation in AI-enhanced education.
About the role
As a Data Engineer, you will:
* Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines which support AI-driven assessment solutions
* Develop and optimise ETL/ELT processes for ingesting, transforming and storing structured and unstructured data
* Collaborate with Applied AI colleagues, data scientists, and product teams to define data requirements and implement effective solutions
* Ensure data quality, validation, and governance through best practices in metadata management and lineage tracking
About you
You are passionate about data engineering excellence and are skilled at turning complex data requirements into clear, efficient and scalable solutions.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
* A degree in computing, engineering, science or social science with a strong analytical focus
* Proficiency in Python and SQL, along with experience in developing ETL frameworks
* Experience in developing and maintaining data pipelines
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
* The ability to work effectively in an Agile environment and stay up to date with emerging data engineering technologies
Desirable:
* Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for managing cloud resources
* Familiarity with Apache Spark, Airflow or equivalent
* Working knowledge of data modelling, schema design and data warehouse architecture
