The Opportunity
As the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Subject Matter Expert (SME), you’ll ensure all NDT activities on or near the HPC site meet technical compliance. You'll verify that requirements are correctly captured in procedures, technique sheets, and method statements while supporting and supervising your team in reviewing these documents.
Your role will focus on minimising risks from NDT activities, driving innovation in the supply chain, and ensuring the safest and most efficient testing methods. You’ll champion the introduction of advanced techniques like digital radiography, UT/PAUT, ECAT, and more selecting the safest and most effective approach for each application while reducing radiation exposure.
You’ll also shape NNB’s strategy and guidelines for NDT surveillance, leading reviews, sentencing outcomes, and responding to Requests for Information (RFI), Field Change Requests (FCR), and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR). Your expertise will be key in delivering a high-quality, cost-effective NDT programme that meets safety and regulatory standards.

What you’ll be doing
In this role, you'll be responsible for reviewing radiographs, particularly when arbitration or concerns arise, categorising indications, and determining potential resolutions, including addressing process and welding issues. You’ll provide technical expertise during construction, offering guidance on non-conformance reports (NCRs), troubleshooting radiograph failures, and tackling challenges with other NDT methods like dye penetrant, ultrasonics, visual inspection, eddy current testing, and phased array ultrasonics. Additionally, you'll play a key part in the review and acceptance (R&A) process for NDT procedures, ensuring thorough evaluation of RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statements), technique sheets, and relevant installation and test plans. Additional roles and responsibilities include:
* Provide expert technical review of surveillance guidelines to support the HPC Quality function in overseeing the construction of systems, structures, and components.
* Offer technical assistance to the HPC Project, delivery management, and contract organisations on site mobilisation, radiography processes, adherence to standards, and NNB GenCO’s expectations for work on the licensed site.
* Deliver strategic advice to aid the planning and coordination of radiography, addressing both nuclear safety concerns regarding ionising materials and ensuring proposed procedures meet the quality standards required for NPP construction.
* Develop plans for surveillance of radiography and other NDT techniques, including writing strategies, programmes, work instructions, and guidelines.
* Serve as the technical lead for reviewing radiography documentation on the HPC site.
* Collaborate with the Radiography Coordinator to promote safer radiography techniques and the adoption of innovative methods like digital radiography across the supply chain.
* Act as a technical expert on radiography and other NDT techniques in the review of Non-Conformance Reports, Requests for Information, and Field Change Requests.
* Coordinate the technical learning and experience associated with radiography implementation at HPC and within the wider industry.
* Work with the radiography coordinator and contractors to resolve issues related to radiography, ensuring the programme is delivered on time, within quality standards, and on budget.
Who you are
To succeed in this role, you’ll need a PCN, ISO 9712, or equivalent Level 3 certification in Radiographic Techniques. A solid understanding of construction codes like RCC-M and ASME is highly desirable. You should also bring significant experience in NDT, particularly in nuclear or other high-hazard environments. A broad knowledge of various non-destructive testing techniques is essential, and any additional qualifications, especially in Phased Array Ultrasonic Techniques or surface inspection, will be a valuable advantage. Additional requirements include:

* Highly skilled in analysing complex, detailed technical information and swiftly identifying underlying issues and risks.
* Proactive in identifying future risks and their potential implications.
* Exceptional communicator, able to convey complex concepts and data with clarity, ensuring they are easily understood and actionable.
* In-depth knowledge of large-scale organisational, process plant, and site operations.
* Expert in non-destructive testing, with a deep understanding of various techniques and technologies, including their benefits and limitations.
* Capable of establishing a vision and developing and implementing strategies to achieve it.
* Extensive knowledge of national and international HSE standards.
* Familiarity with CDM Regulations and IRR.
* Proven track record of delivering outstanding safety results on major engineering and construction projects.
