As we expand, we are seeking a Careers, Learning & Development Manager to join our People Team and contribute to this exciting phase of growth.
Reporting to our People Director, the Careers, Learning & Development Manager will be responsible for leading the Talent and Skills development strategy for the airport. This includes the establishment and enhancement of a Skills and Training Academy, the development and delivery of the Skills and Employment Plan and the development of both current and future skills to facilitate the onboarding of new employees while also supporting the professional growth of our existing staff.
This role will be instrumental in attracting and recruiting a diverse pipeline of early career talent for Bristol Airport, overseeing the development and implementation of apprenticeships, employment programs, and resourcing strategies. A key focus will be on fostering and maintaining relationships with business partners, stakeholders, and educational institutions to effectively execute the skills and employment plan.
We’re looking for a candidate who possesses a professional and commercial mindset towards training and learning, with a strong focus on employee engagement and ongoing development. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in successfully implementing workforce strategy and planning, as well as in creating and delivering innovative training and development solutions within a technical and/or highly regulated environment.
The role will involve daily leadership and management of the skills and development team, which consists of 3 team members.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy and Leadership
1. Accountable for the creation and development of the Skills & Development Strategy, ensuring it supports our 5-year business transformation and reinforces our agreed values and behaviors.
2. Accountable for the creation, development, and management of the Skills & Training Academy for the business, ensuring it delivers end-to-end training needs throughout the colleague lifecycle.
3. Provide effective leadership and management of the Skills and Development team driving high performance and standards.
4. Management of allocated budgets effectively, including optimisation of the Apprenticeship Levy.
5. Ensuring feedback and insight is front and centre in our decision making, using it proactively and thinking of new ways to improve our early and future career programmes, employee experience, talent management practices and career development opportunities with a vision on future requirements.

Skills & Employment
1. Accountable for the delivery of the Airport’s Skills and Employment Plan to support the growth of the Airport and effectively build relationships with on-site Business Partners to support the creation of early and future careers; catering for key identified skills gaps such as STEM, Retail, Service & Operations.
2. Accountable for developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with both the airport partners as well as external partners, i.e. charities, local authorities, universities etc. to deliver our regional employer purpose through the Skills and Employment plan and S106 commitments.
3. Lead the team and work closely with stakeholders to design and implement learning pathways through our learning management systems and development programmes.
4. Creating and delivering skills gap analysis and designing/ delivering training initiatives to close skill gaps.
Learning & Development
1. Effectively consult, design and deliver strategic initiatives that foster learning and talent development, and lead organisational development projects that contribute to commercial success and operational excellence.
2. Oversight of the full training lifecycle, from needs assessment to evaluation and feedback ensuring that alternative delivery methods, learning styles and formats have been considered as an inclusive employer.
3. Development and management of an effective network of external partner providers (including local colleges) to create and develop bespoke training and development solutions to meet our business needs.
4. Lead the team to provide effective online learning experiences through the relevant digital platform, ensuring full compliance and the necessary courses are fit for purpose and meet the needs of our colleagues and regulatory learning requirements.
5. Implement metrics to assess and enhance the impact of Training and Skills development initiatives, ensuring commercial value.
6. Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness, adjusting as necessary to ensure continuous improvement and successful business outcomes.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential:
1. A professional and commercial approach to skills, training and development, with a strong emphasis on high employee engagement and continuous development.
2. Effective communication, and relationship building skills, honed in working in operational and customer focused and service driven environments.
3. Proactive and self-motivated, with examples of adding value as both an individual contributor and an active team member.
4. Proven experience and successful delivery of supporting workforce strategy and planning, with a focus on learning and development.
5. Experience of developing and delivering innovative training and development solutions in a service, technical and/or regulatory led environment.
6. Experience of working collaboratively with a wide range of subject matter experts in a range of disciplines to deliver programs.
7. Good working knowledge of a systematic approach to training through various delivery methods.
8. An ability to influence and drive change and successfully deliver projects.
9. Proven experience in attraction campaigns and employer brand development to attract and retain diverse talent.
10. Strong ability to put the customer experience front and centre of all training and development interventions.
11. Evidence of delivering business improvements via colleague performance and proven success in building talent pipelines for early careers.
12. Evidence of building strong working relationships with stakeholders, understanding their needs and able to provide effective training, skills and development subject matter expert service and support.
13. Able to utilise technology to promote and reinforce learning (MS Teams, SharePoint).
