The Aloha Foundation, Inc. - Camps Aloha, Hive, Lanakila, Horizons, Ohana, Hulbert Outdoor Center
Recruitment began on February 13, 2025 and the job listing expires on May 15, 2025.
We have an immediate opening for a Sous Chef to work at Ohana Family Camp on Lake Fairlee.
The Sous Chef reports to the Ohana Head Chef and is expected to maintain high standards for presentation, taste, and quality. Responsibilities include teaching our Kitchen Assistants, maintaining the highest level of cleanliness, managing our storeroom and walk-ins, and leading the kitchen on our Head Chef’s days off. The Sous Chef will work the line (batch line), prep, clean, and help keep the kitchen running smoothly.
The ideal candidate has a great attitude and is looking to help lead a team that will create memorable experiences for guests and themselves. Experience in a kitchen is required; this position would be suitable for an experienced lead line looking to step into greater responsibility.
Ohana Family Camp is part of the Aloha Foundation, a non-profit organization located on Lake Fairlee in east-central Vermont. Our summer family camp season runs from June 17 to August 22. Before and after, we cater weddings and events.
During family camp, we serve three meals a day, buffet style, and cater to several food allergies and preferences, serving approximately 115 people per meal per day. Spring and fall vary from buffet to family style to formal plated meals, with numbers ranging from 50 to 175. We work with local farms and producers to source our food, including from our herb gardens, vegetable patches, and foraged goods.
Our kitchen is bright and open, allowing frequent interaction with campers who enjoy watching us cook and prep. This is a fun and pleasant work environment. We work long hours in one of the most beautiful places on earth with incredible people, and there are no late nights—we are usually out between 8 and 9 pm. This job is unlike any kitchen job you will ever have!
This position can include room or board if interested, or can be designed for someone living locally. Employment can start immediately or as late as August 20, and ends with the Ohana season in late October. Since we are part of a larger organization, winter opportunities may be available for the right candidate.
