We have a fantastic opportunity to join our team as a Data Engineer. Based from Basingstoke, you'll combine home and office working to ensure a positive work/life balance.
The Role
In this technical role, you'll work with the Integration team and wider stakeholders across the business to understand varying requirements, contributing towards designing a system which implements automated processes that create and maintain a central data platform.
As an experienced analyst/engineer in data management, you'll advise on best practice and help deliver a technical solution that can adapt as SNG's needs change. This role is responsible for the technical design, implementation, and day-to-day running of SNG's central data platform. It's a key role in ensuring the collation, storage, and transformation of core business data into information, which will produce valuable reports and insights across the Business.
Responsibilities include:
* Designing, creating, and implementing SNG's central data platform to support the data reporting and analytics functions of the business.
* Modelling the data to create high-value useable data sets that the business can leverage and sourcing data across multiple complex systems to produce valuable and meaningful business insight.
* Supporting the preparation, formatting, and automated loading of data into an enterprise data store to support all reporting and analytical functions by the Data and Business Platforms teams and wider business.
* Supporting the team to ensure the corporate data store complies with SNG's agreed data architecture, respecting where data is mastered and working in collaboration with the Data Architect to improve our data architecture from reporting and analytics.
* Supporting with reconciling the data in the corporate data store, as well as data quality checks, to source systems and ensuring data analysts have a clear auditable line back to systems of record.
What we need from you
You'll need previous experience in a similar technical role. You should have a strong understanding of Data Lakehouse approach, including Kimball/Star schema with experience applying this in a Cloud-based Data platform, specifically MS Azure.
Skills required:
* Understanding of fundamental DQ practices, including missing, outliers, contamination, inconsistency, invalid, duplicate, data types, and structural errors.
* Data storage solutions including Data Lake and MS SQL 2012 and above.
* Coding languages T-SQL and a basic understanding of Python.
* Azure Data Factory and MS Synapse.
* Development using Visual Studio and Microsoft ADO methodologies for source control, project delivery, deployment pipelines, and testing.
* Data Lake architecture, Azure Synapse, Purview, and other Azure data tools.
* Working with APIs.

* Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
* Excellent prioritisation, planning, and organisational skills.
