We are excited to offer this opportunity to join our growing Data Management Services team at Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board as a Data Engineer. This post sits within the Data Management Services team, a subteam of the larger Business Intelligence team, and will be reporting to the Deputy Data Services Manager.

We are looking for a Data Engineer who will play a vital role in building and optimizing data systems, designing scalable pipelines, and delivering clean, reliable data to fuel our analytics and machine learning projects.
As a Data Engineer on our team, you'll work alongside data scientists, analysts, and other engineers, creating and maintaining a data infrastructure that transforms raw data into actionable insights. From optimizing ETL processes to implementing data quality checks, you'll be the backbone of our data architecture, ensuring our systems are robust, secure, and ready to support our organisation.

1. Build & Optimize: Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL processes to transform raw data into powerful insights.
2. Innovate & Automate: Create and implement scalable systems to support data flow from multiple sources, ensuring reliability and efficiency.
3. Collaborate & Elevate: Work alongside data analysts and engineers to deliver customized data solutions that inform decision making across the NHS Gloucestershire system.
4. Monitor & Assure Quality: Ensure data integrity with rigorous testing, validation, and monitoring practices that keep our data clean and trustworthy.

Job description
Job responsibilities
Key Purpose of Job:
1. Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture by designing and implementing data ingestion solutions on a variety of platforms, including AWS and Microsoft.
2. Integrate and assemble large, complex data sets that meet a broad range of business requirements.
3. Support the development of appropriate data architecture to enable the delivery of a high-quality Data Management service across the organisation and Gloucestershire system.
4. Support the implementation and development of the organisations Business Intelligence reporting solution, ensuring the culture of a self-serve environment is available for all staff.
5. Work with the organisations 3rd party data services provider, CSU, and other NHS organisations to ensure that data is correct and fit for purpose.
6. Using helpdesk software, raising and answering tickets, such as Jira, TopDesk etc.
7. Provide support to Data Management Services on key projects.
8. Work with the organisations Digital Team in creating and maintaining our cloud infrastructure.
This post will be set within the Business Intelligence Department but will work collaboratively with the organisations Digital Team and the Data Services provider.

Qualifications
Essential
* Educated to degree level in a quantitative subject.
* Demonstrate an understanding of datasets and data sources including the quality and reliability of the data.
* Experience using relevant software including SQL, SSIS, and Power BI.
* Experience in maintaining and developing data pipelines.
* Understanding of the importance of data quality and the ability to resolve issues.
* Experience of liaising with staff at all levels and being confident in working through organisation corporate issues where information is of influence.
Desirable
* Experience of continued professional development in specialist area.
* Experience using software including Python and R.
* Experience of interpreting national policy for implementation.
* Experience of cloud based computing and APIs.
* Experience in implementing, managing and administrating data warehouse solutions.
