We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Data Engineer to join our Data Platform and Engineering team. You’ll be a technical authority, providing technical expertise with key responsibility for line managing and leading the Retail Data Domain Team. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events. What you’ll be doing: Lead, manage and mentor a small team of data engineers and produce a high performing team. Develop data pipelines: Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines that efficiently collect, process, and store large volumes of data from various sources, ensuring data quality and integrity. Continuously monitor, analyse and optimize data pipelines to improve performance, reduce costs, and ensure reliability and scalability. Ensure that data solutions comply with relevant data architecture, security and privacy regulations, and implement best practices. Form successful relationships with internal stakeholder throughout your assigned domain, providing technical and business value. Work with stakeholders to ensure the product is aligned to business goals and delivering business value. Ensure continued relevancy of technical skills through demonstrable training and research. Expert knowledge and experience in Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Event Hubs, PowerBI, Devops, GIT, SQL, Python and PySpark. Experience with other data technologies such as Oracle, SQL Server, SSIS is desirable. Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide updates to a non-technical audience where required. Excellent inter-personal and collaboration skills. Proven experience providing technical leadership in a product team or domain. Extensive knowledge of development lifecycles. Agile practices, principles and theories including Value Stream level ceremonies. As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
