Job Title: Head Chef
Salary: £29,130 - £30,982
Location: Huddersfield
Hours and Weeks per Year: 37 hours/52 weeks
In the role of Head Chef, you will be based in Landings 72, the restaurant and coffee shop at our main Huddersfield site. You will be required to have extensive industry experience at a high level and be able to successfully run a busy kitchen.
You will be required to maintain a five-star hygiene rating, ensuring all relevant documentation is fully complete, and you will be key in ensuring that the kitchen meets its financial targets. Attention to detail is necessary for the role, ensuring high standards are met throughout. Alongside this, you will be writing menus and managing stock levels, ordering supplies as needed within budget and ensuring good value for money.
An important element of the role will be to ensure the students are well-managed whilst in the kitchen environment, and that they are able to benefit from your wealth of experience; this will include training and assessing learners as they progress in their studies. This role would therefore ideally suit someone who is looking to pursue a career in culinary education.
Your role will also include publicising special events and looking for opportunities to increase income, as well as being involved in competition work, social media campaigns, and so on. You would also be required to support the Hospitality department as required. This could include external events, evenings, open days, and taster sessions.
You will ideally have a minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject, along with Level 2 food hygiene, or be willing to work towards this.
It is important that you are able to communicate effectively with staff and students alike, engage easily with our students, and be able to clearly demonstrate our college values of Kindness, Unity, and Excellence in your role.
Due to the nature of our work, it is essential you are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. You will also be provided with appropriate personal protective equipment for the role.
We believe learning is not just for our students: it’s an important part of working here too. Staff development opportunities include a mentoring scheme, financial contributions for external qualifications, and skills development for current and aspiring managers. You’ll also have access to a range of staff benefits including an employee assistance programme, retail and leisure discounts, and reduced Metro travel.
We want people who believe in the value of education, and who can contribute to our culture of supporting and challenging one another.
