The Altucher Confident blog is a series of confessions about misfortune turned "into a source of wisdom and comfort for the despondent", as reports Bloomberg Businessweek. Since its launch in 2010, his blog gets more and more success (10 million page views in 2010) and continues to attract visitors from all around the world.
His success seems logical: when you are in trouble, you feel lonely. You need to find a way out, quickly. You need to find solutions. You need an idea. James gives his readers ideas based on his own experience. He also shares strategies he used to get out of the most difficult situations in his life. He uses personal and sincere approach. In short, you feel like you've just found a friend to talk to or a mentor to follow.
“There is such a deep need out there to know you are not struggling alone,” James says.
Here's a small extract on the philosophy of this blog in Bloomberg's article: “A year ago I had a revelation,” he says. “I've failed time and again, hurt myself and others, woke up angry and scared at three every morning. I needed to open up and share.” In October 2010, Altucher started posting confessions on everything from business failure and sex to death and depression. Example: “I was completely lost, four years old, running around the department store looking for my parents who I was afraid had abandoned me. … I'm still wondering why they were thinking of entering the elevator without me.”
