Main duties of the job
We are interested in recruiting an enthusiastic and dedicated Specialty Doctor who is interested in shaping the future in terms of their career and the provision of services. The postholder is expected to help promote mental health throughout the general hospital. A patient-centred approach that involves the general hospital in joint care is essential.
The ability to liaise with clinicians, managers, other psychiatric teams, and relatives is a key part of the role.
Assessment of patients who are acutely psychiatrically unwell and also need physical health treatment provides a challenging yet highly variable and rewarding environment. We see patients above the age of 18, both general adult and older adults.
There is a large mix of patients with diagnoses from depression, anxiety, emotionally unstable personality disorder, crisis presentations of BPAD, and Schizophrenia. We also work alongside other services such as the People with Learning Disability Service, Perinatal Service, and Eating Disorders Service while a patient is in hospital. We also see some patients who simply have a hospital-specific problem and need help to navigate the system or have reasonable adjustments, e.g., people with autism. The variety listed is to give a sense of the range of clinical interest.
It would be desirable for the candidate to have Section 12 approval to help with acute presentations.
