Your Job Family Purpose Roles in this family require people to be qualified (fully or working towards) healthcare professionals who are responsible for designing and delivering a range of health and care services and advice to patients (face to face, by telephone or by developing written materials for patient and customer portals / apps) Your Role Purpose To work in conjunction with assigned designated hospitals/centres to deliver patient education and support to patients receiving oncology therapies. To education and deliver on other IV therapies are required. To deliver services in a customer focused, patient centric manner than optimises therapeutic benefit, maximises adherence to treatment and provides a positive patient experience, whilst complying with relevant quality and contractual requirements. Our Values Your Key Deliverables Undertake a clinical assessment of patients needs. Conduct training interaction(s) to ensure patient and/or carer are able to safely self-medicate relevant oncology medications e.g. oral tablets. This will include making patient aware of service, how to administer medication, how to store, highlighting side effects and what to do or who to contact should they arise. Provide on-going support to patients through the combination of support programmes to include telephone, clinic-based and home visits as per product and client protocols. Assess patients home environment to ensure it is suitable for home IV oncology treatment including ensuring the environment is safe and secure, has working means of communication e.g. telephone and will be a safe environment for nurses to work. Complete line care for all IV oncology patients, ensuring lines are clean and clear. Change dressings and provide advice on caring for lines to patients and care givers. Administer all IV Oncology medications for all patients undergoing IV cancer treatment. Check blood results and made decisions on whether critical levels are within safe parameters to continue with treatment. Liaise with referring consultants on any concerns around treatment or if patient is too unwell to receive medication. Complete blood transfusions with patients or arrange suitably qualified nurse to visit patient to deliver transfusions. Our Regulatory Responsibilities Adhere to (CQC/ GDP/NMC/GPHC / ICO) standards relevant to role Chair / Attend all relevant committees aligned to remit of the role Be aware of all responsibilities relating to Infection Prevention and Control Your Skills and Knowledge RGN part 1 NMC Register Chemotherapy delivery qualification Experience in administering oncology medication, either in hospital or community environment Experience of undertaking clinical assessments and administering sub-cutaneous injections Experience in the care of IV devices and administration of IV therapies Clinical skills required include clinical assessment, administering I.V. injections, administering chemotherapy, cannulation and phlebotomy skills.
