The Digital Audio News department has a reputation for innovation and experimentation, creating formats aimed at attracting new audiences and promoting our best journalism across BBC platforms.
The team curates and produces content for the Latest News Playlist which features prominently on the BBC Sounds homepage, including short-form audio news articles, explainers, podcasts, and highlights from BBC News output.
Main Responsibilities
Digital Audio News is looking for creative journalists who can write, read, produce, and edit audio news content to the highest standard. The role involves on-air work, so candidates should have a strong and engaging voice. We are looking for journalists who are versatile in writing engaging copy and editing images as well as writing and editing for audio.
You should have a thorough knowledge of what’s happening in the UK and around the world, brimming with story ideas and treatments. Our journalists work closely with correspondents, reporters, and presenters, helping them structure and re-work their reports to complement our conversational storytelling style.
The role may involve planning and delivering one-off projects and piloting new ideas. You will be expected to work a full range of shifts across a seven-day week. This is a newsroom-based role, with no working from home.
If invited to interview, you will be asked to supply a sample voice recording in advance.

Journalists in the new Digital Audio News team will need to have a wide-ranging skillset including:
* Strong editorial judgement and first-class writing skills
* Excellent production and audio editing skills
* The ability to voice content for publication
* Experience in on-demand curation and use of image editing packages, such as Photoshop
* An enthusiasm for experimentation and innovation
* A supportive team mentality, with the ability to work well under pressure
* Excellent communication skills
* Creative thinking with original story and treatment ideas
* Knowledge of how to reach diverse and underserved audiences
