Nominet is on the hunt for a skilled Site Reliability Engineer to be a part of our Reliability Engineering function. This team is dedicated to the creation and upkeep of our secure compute platforms, a foundational element of our hybrid products. As a cornerstone of the UKs internet, Nominet plays a crucial role, notably in providing Registry and DNS services across a variety of high profile TLDs. Given the critical nature of our services and our unwavering commitment to strict security and compliance protocols, you can expect to encounter a myriad of challenging problems to address. The role of the Site Reliability Engineer is vital to Nominet; this role encompasses the design, rollout, and administration of scalable cloud infrastructure, primarily on AWS. The chosen candidate will spearhead the adoption of self-service infrastructure tools and will be instrumental in enriching the overall developer experience at Nominet.
About the role
1. Design, deploy, and manage Kubernetes clusters to ensure a scalable and resilient application infrastructure.
2. Spearhead the creation and implementation of self-service infrastructure tools to empower our developers and improve productivity.
3. Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, optimizing the developer workflow.
4. Use Terraform extensively to uphold infrastructure as code practices and facilitate automated infrastructure provisioning.
5. Embrace and implement GitOps principles in the infrastructure deployment process.
6. Collaborate with development teams to integrate their projects into the production AWS environment, providing ongoing support.
7. Ensure the infrastructures security, scalability, and stability.
8. Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize performance of the infrastructure components.
9. Develop scripts and tools using modern programming languages to automate routine operations, secondary familiarity with Bash scripting.
10. Maintain comprehensive documentation for infrastructure setups, procedures, and architectural decisions.
11. Work closely with security teams to ensure adherence to best practices and compliance requirements.
12. Research and adopt new cloud, container, and GitOps technologies or tools to further enhance automation, orchestration, and developer experience.
About you and your experience
Technical
1. A suitable candidate would ideally have experience in SRE, platform engineering, DevOps, or a cloud engineering role.
2. AWS: Experience operating production systems on AWS. Holding relevant AWS certifications (like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer) would be a strong asset.
3. Kubernetes: Experience operating and developing on production systems running on K8s. Credentials such as the Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) are beneficial.
4. Terraform: Experience with commercial deployments using Terraform, specifically utilizing modules.
5. CICD: Prior experience using GitLab or a related tool to build developer-centric CI/CD pipelines.
6. GitOps: Hands-on experience implementing GitOps workflows, especially using ArgoCD, would be highly advantageous.
7. Effective Communication: Ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
8. Active Listening: Understands the viewpoints and concerns of others, ensuring that team members and stakeholders feel heard and understood.
9. Team Collaboration: Works well in a team setting, collaborating with developers, security experts, and other engineers to achieve common goals.
10. Conflict Resolution: Handles disagreements or misunderstandings constructively and diplomatically, finding middle ground when necessary.
11. Adaptability: Open to feedback and can adjust to changes in priorities, processes, or team dynamics.
12. Problem-Solving: Collaboratively approaches challenges and hurdles with a positive attitude, seeking input from others when needed.
Interview Process
1. 1st stage: Introduction call with a member of the TA team (30 mins)
2. 2nd stage: Interview with the hiring manager (45 mins)
3. 3rd stage: Onsite interview, Kubernetes task (45 mins), and a values interview (30 mins)
