Job Overview:
The Staff Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to residents in a nursing home setting. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care plans to ensure residents receive comprehensive, individualized care. The Staff Nurse works as part of a multidisciplinary team to promote residents' well-being and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Care:
o Deliver nursing care in accordance with current best practices, standards, policies, and procedures.
o Assess residents' physical, psychological, and social needs, and develop and implement individualized care plans.
o Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to protocols.
o Monitor and record residents' conditions, reporting any changes or concerns to the senior nurse or manager.
o Provide end-of-life care and support to residents and their families, ensuring dignity and comfort.
2. Resident Interaction:
o Build positive relationships with residents, understanding their needs, preferences, and values.
o Promote residents' independence, privacy, and dignity in all aspects of care.
o Encourage and support residents to participate in social and recreational activities.
3. Communication:
o Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
o Report and document incidents, accidents, or complaints promptly and in accordance with policy.
o Participate in and contribute to staff meetings, handovers, and training sessions.
4. Team Collaboration:
o Work collaboratively with other nurses, care staff, and healthcare professionals to provide holistic care.
o Support, mentor, and supervise care assistants and junior staff.
o Participate in the induction and training of new staff members.
5. Compliance and Professional Development:
o Adhere to all regulatory and statutory requirements, including those set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
o Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and documentation.
o Engage in continuous professional development, attending training and keeping up to date with nursing best practices.
o Ensure personal compliance with health and safety, infection control, and safeguarding policies.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Essential:
o Registered Nurse with a valid NMC PIN.
o Previous experience in a care home or similar setting.
o Strong clinical skills and knowledge of nursing best practices.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
o Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
2. Desirable:
o Experience in dementia care, palliative care, or gerontological nursing.
o Additional qualifications or training relevant to the role.
