The Gas Responsible Person is responsible for the implementation and management of gas safety within their designated area. This involves ensuring that all personnel on-site comply with the requirements of the Gas Safety Case and supporting the effective and timely delivery of core services. The role requires providing professional and technical advice to maintenance teams, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), and end users, as well as assisting the Help Desk with technical queries. A key aspect of this position is maintaining the Gas Safety Management Plan, ensuring records are accurate and up to date, and utilising systems like Maximo effectively.
The Gas Responsible Person manages gas-related projects, providing technical input and preparing business cases as needed. They ensure familiarity with all site-specific safety requirements and maintain open communication with hazardous area managers where applicable. Assessing the competence of Gas Skilled Persons is a crucial duty, involving their appointment, performance review, and compliance with safety protocols. Where necessary, appointments may be suspended to uphold safety standards. They also prepare risk assessments, method statements, safety programs, and Gas Permits to Work, ensuring all documentation is of high quality. Regular participation in risk meetings, updating risk registers, and reducing corrective actions within agreed timelines are also fundamental responsibilities.
From a commercial perspective, the Gas Responsible Person ensures that operations are cost-effective while meeting stakeholder expectations through clear communication and sound decision-making. They support risk management processes and contribute to the preparation of key operational documents such as the ESTS, FASP, and ESRs. Efficiency and profitability are priorities, ensuring the business remains sustainable and successful.
Collaboration is a central component of this role. The Gas Responsible Person works closely with colleagues across the organization to ensure a consistent approach to delivering the requirements of JSP 375. They build and maintain effective working relationships with the HoE, DIO, and end users, providing advice and support for estate activities and new work requirements. Supervising, coaching, and training Skilled Persons are integral parts of the role, ensuring proper oversight of equipment operation and addressing any issues that may arise. They provide timely supervision and guidance to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
What You Need To Do The Job
It is essential that candidates hold Commercial Gas qualifications and have experience in Compliance Management.
To excel, the individual must have substantial experience managing Safe Systems of Work, supervising site operations, and making sound decisions. Strong communication, IT proficiency, and familiarity with systems like Maximo are essential. Experience with JSP 375, site equipment, and professional memberships are advantageous.
This role requires leadership, the ability to foster collaboration, and a commitment to high standards, ensuring effective and safe delivery of the VIVO contract while maintaining strong relationships with MoD personnel and end users.
Due to the security vetting requirements of the Contract, applicants must have the the ability to obtain unrestricted SC Clearance.
It is also essential that you hold a full UK driving licence.
