Glaxo renal unit is a Haemodialysis unit providing 33 dialysis stations to chronic renal dialysis population in addition to this the unit provides dialysis to the acute renal patients on ward 3 at Heartlands and the inpatient population where necessary.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated band 5 staff nurse to come and join the renal team. We have a range of opportunities within our innovative renal nursing team for those new to renal /dialysis extending to experienced haemodialysis nurses. We are happy to consider applications from newly qualified nurses.
The role provides an excellent development opportunity in renal care. You must be committed to delivering high standards of patient care and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills. In return Renal Nursing can provide many career opportunities from nursing leadership within dialysis units to clinical nurse specialist posts.
Whilst you would be mainly based at Glaxo Renal Unit you may be required to rotate across to one of the satellite units. The unit runs three shifts from 0700hrs to 2400hrs Monday -- Saturday. With the opening of a Sunday shift 10.00 -18.00 starting in the February 2025.
Participation in the emergency out of hours on call haemodialysis service is included in this post after you have suitable experience.
We will provide support and an individual development plan along with rotation to other dialysis units (and ward 3 if requested).
Main duties of the job
* To be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for patients receiving haemodialysis.
* To ensure consistent delivery of planned care, maintaining agreed nursing and clinical standards.
* To act as a named nurse for an identified group of patients.
* To participate in the emergency out of hours on call haemodialysis service.
* To ensure that provision of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct is followed.
* To be familiar with and adhere to all Trust and local policies and procedures, undertaking any training to comply with these policies.
* To provide advice, support and information to patients and their relatives/friends as required.
* To participate in the demonstration of procedures to qualified and healthcare assistant staff.
* To participate in local teaching and induction programmes for qualified staff, healthcare assistants and learners.
* To teach nurses and other professionals, to assist in meeting training needs within the unit as directed by the Senior Sister within your sphere of competence.
* To supervise student/learner nurses and demonstrate skills as a mentor providing a good learning environment.
* To perform staff appraisals in conjunction with the Senior Sister.

* Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
Experience

* Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary NHS care setting (can include student placements within the last 12 months)
* Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence
* Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision to others
* Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
