An exciting opportunity has become available for an Occupational Therapy (OT) Support Worker to join the Older Adult OT Team in Torfaen. The post holder will provide occupational therapy interventions and will also support with assessments, working under the direction of the Senior Occupational Therapist within the team. The post offers an excellent opportunity for someone with experience of support work and with a passion for working with older adults with mental health difficulties to develop their skills and confidence and to work in a person-centred way to achieve what is important to them.
The post holder will be expected to work Monday to Friday with some flexibility around hours as needed to meet the needs of service users. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team providing OT interventions in an inpatient setting under the direction of the Senior Occupational Therapist on Hafan Deg Ward. OTs work with people to establish the impact of their mental health issues on their day-to-day occupations (the things people want or need to do to live a personally meaningful life). They devise person-centred plans for intervention, for example, group or one-on-one interventions, utilising meaningful activities to further assess and maintain their occupational skills. Interventions aim to maximise opportunities to engage in meaningful occupations and to address individual goals. The post holder may also support daily living skills assessments and interventions within the community and home environment to support discharge. The post holder will be required to work collaboratively within the OT team and within the wider MDT, developing excellent working relationships, and to support with developing and promoting the role of OT within this setting. The OT service is committed to delivering a high-quality service and therefore requires that all OT support workers participate in the Agored training programme which offers excellent opportunity for development.
