A well-established veterinary practice in Norwich is seeking a Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join its dynamic team. * This purpose-built practice is part of a larger network of veterinary surgeries in Norwich while remaining independently owned and operated.
The team includes:
* 3 Veterinary Surgeons, including two experienced vets and two recent graduates
* 6 Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs), 1 Student Veterinary Nurse, and multiple support staff
A well-equipped facility featuring:
* Six consultation rooms
* Two operating theatres
* A dental suite with dental X-ray
* Dedicated imaging room with digital X-ray, ultrasound, and rigid endoscopy
* A separate pharmacy
* Dedicated dog, cat, and exotic animal wards, as well as separate waiting areas
* Additionally, the practice is part of a larger group with certificate holders in surgery and ophthalmology, and four other vets currently working toward further specialisations. Advanced equipment, including new ultrasound, digital X-ray, endoscopy, tonometry, and multi-parameter monitoring units, ensures the highest standard of care for patients.
The Role: The Senior Veterinary Surgeon will play a crucial role in leading and mentoring the veterinary team. The primary focus is on supporting the professional development of new graduate veterinarians while maintaining excellent clinical standards and patient care.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide hands-on coaching and mentorship to veterinarians and veterinary nurses
* Oversee and support the veterinary team, ensuring a high standard of clinical care
* Guide recent graduates, helping them develop confidence in consultations, procedures, and case management
* Deliver training sessions on veterinary best practices, procedures, and new technologies
* Assess and audit team members' performance, creating tailored development plans
* Take responsibility for veterinary team management, including rota coverage and performance evaluation
* Ensure excellent communication and collaboration between vets, nurses, and support staff
* Confidently handle a varied caseload, including routine and non-routine cases
The Candidate: This role is ideal for a veterinary professional with a passion for leadership, coaching, and clinical excellence. The ideal candidate will have:
* Proven experience in mentoring or coaching veterinary professionals (or a strong desire to develop in this area)
* A degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) and full RCVS registration
* Strong surgical and medical skills, with an ability to oversee a diverse caseload
* Excellent communication and leadership abilities
* A desire to contribute to practice growth and expansion
