Job overview
The management of head and neck cancer patients providing preventative advice, non-surgical periodontal therapy and restorations for patients prior to undergoing surgery and/or chemo/radiotherapy.
• Hypodontia, cleft lip and palate – assisting in the rehabilitation of these patients taking records to plan the treatment and reshaping teeth with composite resin.
• Trauma patients – restorations, hygiene and the management of discoloured teeth.
• Maintenance of dental implants and supra-structures.
• The role will also include the management of periodontal, as well as endodontic and prosthodontic patients referred in by General Dental Practitioners for specialist treatment.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Care and Treatment:
* Responsible for maintaining patient records.
* Formulate individual oral health care preventive plans for patients.
* Record indices and monitor dental disease.
* Take impressions and produce study models.
* Scaling and polishing of teeth including the provision of specialist periodontal invasive therapy.
* Cleaning and polishing teeth including restorations.
* Apply materials to teeth such as fluoride and fissure sealants.
* Carry out routine restorations in both deciduous and permanent teeth on teenagers and adults.
* Carry out emergency temporary replacement of crowns and fillings.
* Undertake cavity preparations from Class 1-V.
* Utilise all materials except pre cast or pinned placements.

Registered as a Dental Therapist
* Registered dental Therapist
* Previous hospital experience
Qualified Dental Therapist
* Has a Dental Therapist qualification
* Knowledge of the role of a Therapist in a Maxillofacial Unit
The ability to converse easily and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for all customer facing roles.
Most positions require a Disclosure and Barring check and will be exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Posts working regularly or unsupervised with children or vulnerable adults require an enhanced check.
