As Chief of Staff for Portfolio Delivery Group, your responsibilities will include:
Leading the DG’s private office and the PDG People and Resourcing team, delivering a high-quality service to the DG and Directors, working closely and collaboratively with other private offices across the department.
Line managing a G7 Head of Office and Senior Private Secretary (who will line manage the DG’s Private Secretary and Assistant Private Secretary) as well as a G7 DG Group Business Planner and G7 Head of People and Resourcing.
Supporting the successful delivery of PDG and wider Dept priorities through your leadership and management of the teams and your own advice and work, whilst maintaining high professional standards and professional relations with supporting functions.
Acting on behalf of the Portfolio Delivery DG, across the Defra group and with external partners when required, seeking to influence and communicate the DG’s position and decisions, driving forward the PDG agenda through informal and formal means.
Under direction of the Portfolio Delivery DG coordinate and support the new change delivery function in PDG including the shaping of the change portfolio and development of the function in collaboration with PDG and Strategy Directors.
Working closely with members of the Portfolio Delivery Leadership team, to help build a cohesive and high performing leadership team, proactively managing and coordinating work, coordinating reporting to the SLT of PDG performance and financial data, spotting risks, managing difficult situations and maintaining strong relationships with Ministerial Private Offices, ExCo private offices and teams across the Department.
Under direction of the Portfolio Delivery DG coordinate and support the change delivery function in PDG. Work with the Director Portfolio Delivery and Director Change on the shaping of the change portfolio and development of the function.
Lead the small team that comprises the office of the Portfolio Delivery DG and work closely and collaboratively with other private offices across the department. Successful delivery of the DG priorities will be achieved through your leadership and management of the team, maintaining high professional standards, professional relations with supporting functions and stakeholders across the Dept, whilst effectively delegating and retaining oversight of the team’s work. Continual development of your team will be key to maintaining resilience and continuing to improve performance.
Lead the PDG People and Resourcing Team and ensure the delivery of a high-quality service to the DG Group. This is a new team and you will be responsible for designing and implementing a sustainable operating model, team structure and ways of working.
