We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a full-time Lead Suppression Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be a vital part of supporting the Fire Protection Association’s UKAS Accredited Fire Testing Laboratory. Your responsibilities will include leading and coordinating the daily operations of the Suppression department, ensuring efficient execution of testing and research projects on fire suppression systems, while upholding safety and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate the suppression team to deliver standard, experimental, and research projects related to suppression systems
* Oversee testing of sprinkler heads, pipes, and water mist heads, ensuring adherence to BS8458 standards
* Conduct function tests on sprinkler heads using defined procedures
* Draft clear, detailed reports on test findings, including analysis and observations, to provide a comprehensive overview of results
* Prepare samples with attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring proper documentation
* Perform delicate handling of customer-provided samples, maintaining sample integrity throughout testing
* Photograph, inspect, and document samples comprehensively, capturing details to support subsequent reporting
* Ensure timely ordering, conditioning, and calibration of equipment, keeping records accurate and up to date
* Lead the organisation, maintenance, and storage of testing equipment and materials
* Identify and implement improvements in testing procedures and documentation
* Support with training in the department to maintain high levels of skill and competence
* Comply with all health and safety, fire, and emergency protocols, including the reporting of near-miss incidents
* Maintain accurate records within the company systems, including Synergist and OneDrive
* Deputise for the Suppression Manager in their absence

Key education and experience
* Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including English and Math’s
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
* Experience with Quality Management Systems
* Demonstrated hands-on or technical aptitude
* Prior experience in a supervisory or team lead role, preferably within a laboratory, testing, or technical environment
* Experience in coordinating workloads, assigning tasks, and mentoring or training team members
* Health and Safety awareness
* A-levels or a degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field
* Proficiency in video and photo editing
* IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) training or similar qualifications
