The Mount Stuart Trust (MST) is located on the Isle of Bute and manages and maintains the land and resources previously comprising the Bute Estate (approximately 34,000 acres) which include tenanted and in-hand farms, residential properties, extensive woodland, sawmill and a number of other commercial ventures. These assets support Mount Stuart House and gardens which have been open to the public since 1995.
The Mount Stuart Trust is an innovative and forward-looking charitable trust that puts conservation, sustainability, innovation, public access and education at its core. Additionally, new enterprises are being developed as an important part of its strategy to deliver economic, social and environmental value to the island community.
The Position
A unique opportunity has arisen to join the senior management team as Head of Rural Operations to direct the rural estate and develop the strategic aims. The position reports to the Chair of Trustees. MST is looking for a dynamic and ambitious individual who is seeking to embrace island life, engage in the local community and make their mark on this progressive organisation.
The selected candidate will deliver on the existing strategy and amend as necessary to capitalise on income and capital growth opportunities whilst maintaining the Trust’s core values.
An important responsibility is maintaining good relationships with a broad range of external stakeholders, including professional advisers, government and local communities whilst at all times being an ambassador to the Trust.
The Candidate
1. A strong track record in managing and enhancing a complex range of rural assets, their financial management and always looking for new opportunities.
2. Highly capable manager of people with a clear empathy for rural businesses and communities, and a passion for economic development that goes beyond the bounds of traditional estate management.
3. Articulate and commercially minded leader with an appetite for evolutionary change who is able to communicate effectively across a variety of forums and maintain the highest standards of diplomacy and empathy in all his/her dealings.
