Kentucky Derby Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that sits on the front steps of historic Churchill Downs Racetrack. It is one of the premier attractions in the Louisville region, celebrating the tradition, history, hospitality and pride of the world-renowned event that is the Kentucky Derby. The Museum welcomes over 258,000 visitors annually; a large percentage of those visitors come from outside of Kentucky, journeying from across the country and the world.
Position Purpose:
The primary purpose for this position is to collaborate with leadership and colleagues in all departments, managing all social media platforms, providing quick and accurate information when necessary and working to support the Director of Communications in managing social media to maximize the Museum’s audience. This position will report to the Director of Communications. This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Functions/Accountabilities:
* Plans and executes strategic social content calendar with the Director of Communications.
* Creates, schedules, and manages content for all Museum social media platforms.
* Works with all Museum Departments, at the discretion of the Director of Communications, to promote a variety of content on social media and through earned media.
* Creates videos/graphics/photography for use on social media/marketing.
* Writes copy for social media posts.
* Responds to social media comments, messages, etc. in a timely manner.
* As social media evolves, must be willing to learn how to create new types or forms of content.
* Responds to online reviews on TripAdvisor, Google, Facebook, and Yelp in a timely manner.
* Assists the Director of Communications in editing the monthly internal newsletter.
* Assists the Director of Communications in coordinating press conferences, press releases, and press appearances.
* Fulfills on-camera, radio, or written interviews with media, as assigned by the Director of Communications.
* Assists the Director of Communications in coordinating media requests and follow-ups.
* Assists the Director of Communications for any internal writing needs like speeches, presentations, website content, etc.
* Assists the Director of Communications with duties associated with Derby; including helping coordinate the influx of media requests, scheduling interviews, gathering assets for media, etc.
* Assists and coordinates with third party contractors and partners for social media consultation and projects.
* Assists with Museum events, offering support to the Director of Communications, as well as, the Special Events, Sales Departments, and Senior Leadership.
* Utilizes SproutSocial to schedule social media and track social media analytics.
* All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
* Minimum of two years of media content development/writing.
* Social Media experience with Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, and social media monitoring platforms like SproutSocial, Hootsuite, etc.
* Must demonstrate a passion for social media.
* Ability to use Canva or other similar programs to build graphics for social media.
* Ability to use Adobe Premiere to edit videos.
* Ability to use an iPhone to capture photos and videos.
* Able to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects with minimal supervision as part of a team.
* Flexibility in accepting and carrying out assignments.
* Minimum of one year of on-camera broadcasting experience.
* Minimum of two years in-depth experience with social media management.
* Excellent planning & organization skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-up.
* Excellent oral & written communication skills.
* Able to work with staff, sponsors, and visitors in a professional manner.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
* Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
* Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Work Schedule:
* Approximately 40 hours per week during operating hours of 8:30AM – 5:00PM (open all days of the week).
* All team members are required to work additional hours during Derby season. This includes but is not limited to working shifts on Thurby, Oaks, Derby, and the Sunday of Derby weekend. All team members are also required to work the week of the National FFA conference and Breeder’s Cup (when held in Louisville).
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk, and climb stairs. This individual will be required to lift packages up to 25lbs. The employee is required to have non-standard workday hours during the spring and fall sessions. All indoor spaces are air-conditioned, although some job duties may take place outside, or in another non-climate-controlled space.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a crowded work area. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to navigate a crowded area and handle a challenging workload.
