Blackpool Sixth is an outstanding college specialising in 16-19 education. We have an exciting opportunity for a Progress Mentor to join our Student Services team. This post is initially on a fixed term maternity cover basis with the possibility of the contract being extended or made permanent. The successful candidate will be working 36.25 hours a week over 5 days, college staff term time only. This is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of the college-wide pastoral team where you will be supporting a wonderful group of highly ambitious students studying on a range of courses. Our main goal is to support every individual to fulfill their full potential.
Each Progress Mentor is responsible for the pastoral care of a cohort of students and acts as the central point of advice and guidance, signposting to other support services where appropriate. Progress Mentors deliver timetabled sessions to each of their groups to provide key information and deliver the pastoral curriculum. The remainder of the time is devoted to pastoral care and one-to-one meetings which monitor attendance, academic progress, and personal development. This is an ideal post for a person who is passionate about the pastoral care of students, establishing a strong rapport with students, removing barriers to learning, and working with individuals to maximise their progress. At the same time, post-holders must be rigorous about maintaining high expectations, standards, and discipline in line with college systems.
A day in Student Services could see you:
* Delivering pastoral curriculum group sessions
* Holding one-to-one support meetings with students, discussing attendance, academic progress, personal development, and setting appropriate SMART targets
* Following up student absences and setting high expectations for attendance
* Liaising with wider support teams to help students overcome any barriers to learning
* Providing advice and guidance to students about steps after college, including university, apprenticeships, employment, and gap years
Do you have experience of providing support and guidance to young people? Can you demonstrate a student-centred approach whilst delivering the pastoral curriculum and offering support and guidance?
If you have answered yes to these questions then we want to hear from you!
