Job Description:
As a Deputy Manager within a CQC registered care home for children and young people, you will support the Registered Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the care home, ensuring the safety, well-being, and development of children and young people under our care. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to create a supportive and nurturing environment that meets the individual needs of each child or young person. You will be responsible for managing and supporting staff, monitoring care quality, and ensuring that the care home adheres to all CQC regulations and statutory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Team Management: Assist the Registered Manager in leading and supporting the care team, ensuring that all staff are effectively supervised, motivated, and trained. Provide guidance, coaching, and regular supervision to staff, helping to improve their practice and ensure high standards of care for the young people.
2. Person-Centred Care Planning: Ensure that individual care plans are developed and implemented for each child or young person, based on their specific needs, preferences, and goals. Monitor and review care plans regularly, making necessary adjustments in collaboration with external agencies and families.
3. Safeguarding & Well-being: Take responsibility for the safeguarding of children and young people in your care, ensuring a safe environment where they are protected from harm. Monitor their physical, emotional, and psychological well-being and take appropriate action if any concerns arise. Ensure all staff adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures.
4. Compliance with CQC Regulations: Ensure that the home operates in full compliance with CQC regulations and statutory requirements, including health, safety, and quality assurance standards. Conduct regular audits of care practices, incidents, and documentation, ensuring continuous improvement in service delivery.
5. Operational Management: Support the operational management of the home, including overseeing rotas, resource allocation, and day-to-day staffing requirements. Assist in the budget management, ensuring the home operates within financial guidelines while maintaining quality care.
6. Health & Safety: Oversee the safety and well-being of children and young people in the care home, ensuring the environment is secure, and all health and safety policies are followed. Conduct risk assessments and take appropriate actions to minimize risks to the residents and staff.
7. Staff Training & Development: Identify and facilitate training and development opportunities for staff, ensuring that all team members are up-to-date with their mandatory training and qualifications. Foster a culture of continuous learning and development to ensure a high standard of care.
8. Quality Assurance & Improvement: Conduct audits and quality checks, ensuring that the home is continuously improving and meeting the needs of the children and young people. Collect and review feedback from young people, families, and external professionals to enhance the service.
9. Communication & External Relationships: Maintain clear communication with children, families, external professionals (such as social workers, healthcare providers), and colleagues. Develop strong working relationships to ensure that the needs of young people are met holistically.
10. Behavioural Support: Support the development and implementation of positive behavioural strategies that help children and young people manage their emotions and behaviours. Ensure that staff are trained in and adhere to therapeutic techniques and de-escalation methods.
11. On-Call & Shift Management: Provide leadership and support to the team during shifts, including providing guidance on challenging situations. Be available for on-call duties when required to provide support to staff and manage emergencies.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Essential:
2. Previous experience working in a managerial or supervisory role within a children’s care setting or similar environment.
3. Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and CQC regulations.
4. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
5. NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (essential), with a desire to complete Level 5 in Leadership and Management (or already completed).
6. Experience in working with children and young people with emotional, behavioural, and developmental needs.
7. A positive and professional approach to care, with a commitment to empowering children and young people.
8. Enhanced DBS check and willingness to undergo further background checks.
9. Ability to manage multiple priorities, make decisions, and solve problems effectively.

11. NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
12. Experience with trauma-informed care or therapeutic support approaches.
13. First Aid and Manual Handling training (or willingness to complete training).
Working Hours:
This is a full-time position, with flexibility required to meet the needs of the children and young people in your care. This will include weekend, evening, and on-call duties, depending on shift patterns.
Salary:
£35,500 - £42,000 DOE
