The Service & Team:
The Waste Management Team at Cornwall Council is a multidisciplinary team that manages the efficient collection, disposal, and recycling of Cornwall’s household waste. The team includes a Closed Landfill section, which manages the long-term aftercare of a range of landfill sites to ensure that they meet the requirements of their environmental permits.
The Role:
Cornwall Council has a unique opening in its small closed landfill team for the right candidate. The Environmental Engineer role requires a high degree of flexibility and involves undertaking a variety of tasks at closed landfill sites across Cornwall, both manual and office-based. A large proportion of the time will be spent on outdoor site-based work, including sampling, minor repairs, vegetation clearance, and checking and operating site infrastructure. The candidate must be able to frequently work alone and without supervision.
The role requires a willingness to train, understand, and become confident in operating a wide range of leachate treatment operations, from simple spray systems to large tank-based systems that ultimately discharge to the environment. The candidate needs to be able to understand how the treatment systems work to operate them successfully.
Working Pattern:
The role offers a flexible working pattern, with a mix of outdoor site-based work and office tasks. The candidate will need to be adaptable to different working environments and tasks.
What you’ll need to succeed:
The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently and without supervision. They should be enthusiastic and willing to learn and develop into the role quickly, both through attaining a formal qualification (if not already held) and by becoming confident in operating various site-based systems.
What you’ll get in return:
