Job overview
We are seeking a Trust Senior Clinical Fellow (ST4-8 equivalent) in Neonates. The post is to commence as soon as possible for a period of 12 months.
The successful candidate will be based mainly in the neonatal unit at Royal Preston Hospital, which is one of the tertiary Centres for the Lancashire and South Cumbria Neonatal Network. There are over 4000 deliveries with six intensive care cots, 8 HDU cots, and 14 SCBU cots.
There is a dedicated consultant of the week system for the neonatal unit with daily consultant-led ward rounds. There is also a dedicated consultant on-call for the neonatal unit with a separate middle grade tier for the neonatal unit and general Paediatrics.
The candidate must have a minimum of six months tertiary neonatal experience at the middle grade level and full registration with the GMC.
Main duties of the job
The clinical duties will comprise routine and out of hours acute cover within the Neonatal Services. The work will be based on a full shift system, sharing the rota with ST3-7 and equivalent trainee doctors.
* Attending to neonates admitted to the Neonatal Unit
* Conducting ward rounds
* Assisting and supervising the Tier 1 (ST1-2/FY2) doctors in managing cases, attending or admitted to the NICU
* Tier 2 on-call duties out of hours for neonatal emergencies and continuation of care of patients on the NICU
* Attending deliveries of extremely premature neonates, high-risk deliveries, and their immediate and aftercare management on the NICU
* Cover for unexpected short-term sickness of a colleague

Person specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
* MBBS / MBChB or equivalent
* Full MRCPCH
* MRCPCH 1 and working towards MRCPCH 2
Experience
* Practical experience in the management of a wide range of paediatric and neonatal conditions
* Appropriate safeguarding children training (Level 3), this can be facilitated if not done
* At least 2 years training in Paediatrics (in the UK), including 6 months neonatal experience as a middle grade
* NLS Instructor
