Social Community Supermarkets are community-led initiatives which provide access to nutritious food for a fraction of what these items would cost in a regular supermarket. They enable people on low incomes to stretch their budgets further each week, helping to prevent crisis situations from arising in household finances resulting in the need to access food bank style support.
The project officer – social supermarket will support the delivery of a mobile Community Supermarket in the districts of Maldon and Braintree. The role will include supporting the smooth running of supermarket sessions alongside supporting tasks such as managing stock and supporting promotion.
Main Duties
1. Support delivery of the social supermarket project(s)
Responsible for:
* Lead on selecting and booking venues for social supermarket venues, assessing suitability and risk and managing dates.
* Manage behind the scenes responsibilities such as managing stock, storage and ordering.
* Manage the promotion of the supermarket at events as needed.
Supporting:
* Support the setup and clear up of Pantry at each of the locations (display tables/food/till etc).
* Support the sessions, provide information and work to create a welcoming and supportive environment.
* Determine and organise the work pattern and relevant numbers of volunteers required at each venue to deliver a safe and smooth operation. Support volunteers and other staff to deliver a safe and smooth operation.
* Facilitate training opportunities for volunteers and staff, e.g. manual handling, food hygiene for retail as well as inhouse training to welcome shoppers to sessions, signposting, manning the till etc.
* Support cash responsibilities including cashing up for the supermarket, recording sales figures, supervising the cash handling in the cafe and keeping sound financial records.
1. Keep accurate monitoring records of the projects activity and impact
Ensure contact details of members are recorded and retained in line with data protection requirements.
Support the Community Supermarket coordinator to ensure monitoring information relating to key outputs and outcomes are recorded and available to populate reports as required by funders and MDCVS.
The salary range for this post is £24,500-£26,000 per annum pro rata'd over up to 20 hours.
This role will take place throughout Maldon and Braintree Districts in Essex.
